Portsmouth men’s tennis remain unbeaten with victory over Dover NHIAA
PORTSMOUTH – The Portsmouth High School boys’ tennis team have won five of six singles matches and swept the doubles in this victory over Division I Dover on Monday afternoon.
The Division II Clippers are now 5-0 this season.
Ryan Porter (# 1, 8-1), Elliot Danley (# 2, 8-0), Addison Bloom (# 3, 8-2), Callum Stocker (# 5, 8-1) and Devon Starr (No.6, 8-1) all won in singles for Portsmouth.
Potter and Bloom won 8-1 at No.1 in doubles, Danley and Aidan Shilman won 8-6 at No.2, and Stocker and Starr won 8-3 at No.3.
EXETER – Kyle Lankler (# 1, 8-0), Ryan Matson (# 2, 8-0), Ethan Koroski (# 3, 8-0), Charles Gaughan (# 4, 8-4) and Liam Simard (No.6, 8-3) won their respective singles matches for Exeter (7-2).
Dominic Theos and Aidan MacDonald won 8-4 at No.1 in doubles, and Ryan Byrnes and Robert Berthel won 8-2 at No.3.
HAMPTON – Shay Leno (# 1, 8-0), Bennett Pike (# 3, 8-4), Mason Pendexter (# 4, 8-5), Nathan Todaro (# 5, 8-1) and Josef Daniels (No.6, 8-1) have all won their respective singles matches for the Warriors.
Leno and Pike won 9-8 at No.1 in doubles, Jackson Willis and Fekadu O’Connor won 8-5 at No.2, and Todaro and Ty Grube won 8-1 at No.3.
Nick Gagnon of Spaulding won 8-5 at No. 2 in singles.
Oyster River 7
Windham – The Bobcats have won their fifth straight game to start the season.
Shashu Srivatsan (No.1, 8-6), John Henry (No.3, 9-7), Siddhu Srivatsan (No.4, 8-5) beats Nick Antonucci, Leo Li (No.5, 8-4) and James Li (No.6, 8-3) won in singles for Oyster River.
Shashu Srivatsan and Josh Nicols won 9-8 (7-4) at No.2 in doubles, and Simon Bliss and Aiden O’Connell won 8-4 at No.3.
“I was really impressed with how well all of the boys performed,” said Oyster River coach Michael Pare. “They continue to focus on improving each time.”
DOVER – Rachel Vitko (# 1, 8-2), Taylor Wilson (# 2, 8-5), Tory Vitko (# 3, 8-4) and Joci Faasen (# 4, 8-5) all won their respective singles matches for the Green Wave.
The Vitkos won 8-1 at No.1 in doubles, and Wilson and Riya Ramdev won 8-3 at No.3.
Portsmouth’s victories came from Lucy Ferrini (No.5, 8-5) and Caylie Cook (No.6, 8-4) in singles, and the No.2 team in doubles from Sophia Jundi and Elisabeth Drakatos.
Portsmouth are now 3-2 this season.
SALEM – Sofia Morales (n ° 1, 8-0), Ava Iacobucci (n ° 2, 8-5), Molly Lankler (n ° 3, 8-2), Grace Ellis (n ° 4, 8-0), and Katie Rocha (No.5, 8-2) all won in singles for Exeter.
Morales and Iacobucci won 8-3 at No.1 in doubles, Lankler and Ellis won 8-1 at No.2, and Rocha and Natalie Ferrel won 8-2 at No.3.
SALEM – Senior Brady Annis struck out eight and allowed four hits and one earned run in five innings for Winnacunnet (9-1) in this division that I win.
Senior Drew Wyman had two hits and four RBIs for the Warriors, while seniors Hayes Waddell and juniors Hunter Chase and Ryan Mooney all had two hits.
Chase, Zach Fredericks, Cam MacDonald and Matthew Maggiore all had an RBI for Winnacunnet.
Oyster River 1
DOVER – Alex Noel allowed a hit and put out eight strikeouts in seven innings for Division I Dover (3-3).
Peter Solbo and Andrew Rapoza both had two hits for Dover. Division II Oyster River is now 2-2.
Berwick Academy 5
SOUTH BERWICK, ME – The Hawks scored in four of the first five innings and hung on for the win.
Senior DJ Cagnina, Chase Stanley and Sam Peterson all had two hits for Marshwood (3-3). Peterson added two RBIs, while Stanley, Noah Fitzgerald and Henry Dimmerling all had one.
EXETER – The Blue Hawks broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth and added three more in the fifth for this division I’m winning.
Jake Wiberg (two hits, two runs RBI), Parker Lendrum (two hits, two runs scored), Nathan Leighton (two hits, two runs scored, RBI) and Connor Norton (two hits, doubles) led the ‘Exeter (5-3) offense.
Ben Cerrato and Zach Ferris combined to limit Timberlane to four hits and two earned runs, while striking out 9.
KENNEBUNK, ME – The Wildcats scored the game’s first four points in the loss to Kennebunk.
Freshman McKayla Kortes had two hits including a double and junior Jill Carr also had two hits for the Wildcats. Senior Meg Batchelder had a brace for York, while junior Elly Bourgoine had a hit.
PLAISTOW – The Blue Hawks scored six runs in the seventh inning, starting with Mackenzie Ducharme’s first home run in this division that I win.
Exeter is now 4-5 on the season, while Timberlane is 2-3.
Ducharme, Summer LeClerc (two RBIs) and Annie Christiana all had three hits for Exeter, while Emma Plourde (two RBIs) had two. Teammates Kristen Bickford and Kristen Beebe both had a hit.
Beebe struck out 14 and allowed six hits in seven innings, taking the win.
HAMPTON – The Blue Devils scored one run in the first and two in the fifth, giving Winnacunnet their first loss of the season.
The Warriors scored their only run in the third inning. Freshman Zaynah Wotkowicz got the only shot for Winnacunnet.
SANFORD, ME – Rose Pavuk has six goals and two assists for York, who has improved to 5-0 this season.
Clara Pavuk (four goals, two assists), Kristen Leroux (two goals, two assists), Abby Armlin (two goals), Carley Mitchell (goal, assists), Lindsey Zinkevicz (goal), Hadley Cucco 1 (first college goal), Carly Drake (goal, assist), Sage works (assist) and Charlotte Grimes (assist) led the York attack.
Saint Thomas Aquinas 18
DOVER – Brooke Chandler led Saint Thomas Aquinas with six goals, while Sarah Leahy had five and Ella Kuselias had three.
Megan Leahy added two goals for the Saints, while Jaimie Murray and Sara Anderson both scored one. Carly Caswell was a big contributor to the draw.
