Come join us in celebrating the Tāmaki River with a free guided kayak, freshwater education booth and raranga weaving workshop.

Explore the mangroves and discover the Tāmaki Portage by kayak. Go on a guided walk with local bird expert Shaun Lee. Learn more about raranga – harakeke weaving with Para Kore Ki Tāmaki.

This event offers a taste of kayaking, raranga and a short guided walk through a 3 hour time slot. Expect to spend around 50 minutes kayaking on the water.

Fun for all the whanau – minimum age 8.

Te Kura Moana – Experiencing Marine Reserves is hosting a series of free and subsidized events over the summer months – we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by donating a koha of your volunteer time at a future event.

Some people donate $5-10 per person.

Children under 8 years old will not be able to participate. Children 8-12 years old should have a confident adult in the back of their kayak. Children under 13 require an accompanying adult.

Registrations are essential. This event is in partnership with Auckland Sea Kayaks, Whitebait Connection, The Koru Trust and Para Kore Ki Tāmaki and is funded by Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Sustainable Schools.

Our event delivery in Auckland is supported by the Bobby Stafford-Bush Foundation. This event has been expanded with support from the Local Activation Fund programme, administered by Auckland Unlimited on behalf of the New Zealand government.
